De troepenschepen <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssmaritime.com\/Aorangi-II.htm\">Aorangie<\/a><\/em> en <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandosnco.co.uk\/narkunda.html\">Narkunda<\/a><\/em> en de vrachtschepen<em> Sussex<\/em> en <em>Abbekerk<\/em> varen nu zonder escorte in noordoostelijke richting, weg van de Afrikaanse kust richting Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Inmiddels is ook duidelijk geworden dat een moderne oorlog op zee niet meer wordt gewonnen door wie de grootste slagschepen heeft. \u00c2&nbsp;Op 10 december heeft een eskader tweemotorige bommenwerpers \u00c2&nbsp;in 20 minuten, Force Z bestaande uit twee van Engeland&#8217;s modernste slagschepen, tot zinken gebracht ten noorden van Singapore. Niet alleen zonk daarmee alle hoop om de Japanse invasie in Maleisi\u00eb te stoppen naar de bodem. Ook zijn daarmee de enige geallieerde slagschepen in de regio vernietigd. Die toestemming wordt gegeven en de machinisten helpen om de kanonnen stevig aan dek te verankeren. Geoff North en zijn mannen leiden bemanningsleden op om de stukken te bedienen.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>De munitie was ook gauw gevonden en zo waren we zeker de best tegen vliegtuigen uitgeruste boot in het konvooi. Nog even toestemming gevraagd om een rondje in de lucht te mogen (in)schieten Dit kon niet worden geweigerd en weldra ontploften een tiental granaatjes hoog in de blauwe lucht.
